  Open Season a Success for Wyoming-Colorado Intertie
  CHEYENNE, Wyo. – A new transmission line connecting the Front Range of Colorado with the wind-rich high plains of eastern Wyoming reached a significant milestone last week. The Wyoming-Colorado Intertie (WCI) Project announced today that a recent Open Season auction was a success, the winning bids have been accepted, and development of the project will continue. It is anticipated that much of the capacity of the transmission line will be committed for delivering Wyoming’s high-quality wind resources to benefit consumers in Colorado.

  New Colorado – Wyoming Transmission Offering
  CHEYENNE, Wyo. – A new transmission line connecting the Front Range of Colorado with the wind-rich high plains of eastern Wyoming is planning to offer capacity rights in an open auction in June 2008. The Wyoming-Colorado Intertie (WCI) Project has announced its time line for an Open Season auction for up to 900 MW of transmission capacity between the two states. If the auction is successful the project sponsors will complete the siting and permitting, construct the line and begin operation by mid-2013. It is expected that much of the capacity will be committed for delivering Wyoming’s high-quality wind resources to the benefit of consumers in Colorado....

  Recent Transmission Investment Sales Not Cause to Worry

Despite cashing out of three major transmission investments that involved 12,600 miles of transmission assets worth hundreds of millions of dollars in Michigan; Alberta, Canada and California over the past year , a founding senior executive with Reston, VA-based Trans-Elect, Inc., said the WECC area is still ripe for new investment and his firm intends to be part of it, starting with the Wyoming-Colorado high-voltage line it is pursuing with Wyoming's State Infrastructure Authority.

  Independent Transmission Pioneer Sees Sector in Transition - Robert Mitchell, CEO, Trans Elect

Robert Mitchell, CEO of independent transmission pioneer Trans-Elect LLC, thinks 2007 could be the year of transmission. Mitchell sees a bellwether for transmission upgrades from what he called the "responsiveness" of industry, regulators and Congress over the past two years. As a result, he said the transmission sector had a record year for announcements of new projects in 2006. "We know that announcing projects isn't the same thing as getting them built, but it is a first step, and that first step had been remarkably absent for many, many years in the past," Mitchell says. "One of the reasons the California Path 15 project got so much attention a few years ago is because there really had not been many major transmission projects done up to that point."
